Leviathan (Liwyatan, Lotan, Litanu) is an important symbol of chaos and cosmic evil in the Bible. This archetype appeared in various forms across the Near East and Greece (remember, archaeology and comparative literature reveal a great deal of influence by the East on Greece – and also in the other direction). This figure of the Old Testament also appears in the New Testament book of Revelation as the seven-headed Dragon and the Beast from the Sea.
