    Shame about the UDI though.

I am not familiar with UDI term but after a brief read I am guessing Separatists from Anglican right ? It is ironic in reading discussions here to see Anglicans consider themselves protestants certainly with historic break but from American perspective we don’t even consider them protestant because of Puritans which affected most subsequent denominations here not to consider Anglican as such or even recall that history. I suppose the Atlantic Ocean has affected theology a great deal with differences in perspective.

I was being naughty. By UDI, I mean rebellion against the Crown. Interesting comments of yours nevertheless. That’s what really all the Anglican conflict is about: entryists wanting to turn Anglicanism into a confessional faith, which it was never been.

I didn’t know that. I thought it was, originally, like Lutheranism which was, and sometimes still is. Thanks.

And yep, Anglicans and Lutheran are the original Protestants, Carl, different in details but quite similar also.

The Separatists broadly conform with the Radical Reformers on the continent. Calvinists, Anabaptists, and so on.

It depends on ones interpretation of the status of the 29 articles. a lot of evangelical missionaries went to certain parts of Africa and Asia setting up new churches which took a confessional view of the 39 articles. You can see where this happened: Nigeria, Uganda, Malaysia, for example. Whereas other parts of the church, e.g. South Africa, China are not like this. Desmond Tutu, for example. stated when Gene Robinson joined the episcopacy that he couldn’t see what all the fuss was about. So the issues are not to be pained as simply “an African thing”. It is tragic that these new converts were mislead, but today they are being egged on by American conservative evangelical money – from outside of Anglicanism – to try to impose their church model of confessionalism on the rest of us.

The 39 articles do appear in the BCP, but they are to be interpreted in the light of the time in which they were written. They have never had the sort of absolute canonical status of infallibility that some evangelicals like to depict.

Romanists are happy with the idea that some of their documents are of an absolute status, whereas others are not. I’m sorry to say that such a simple principle is not easy for some of the evangelicals who are churched under the Anglican banner.

If only these people would read their Bibles as well as the history books, then they’d find out that their human pronouncements of certainties have no basis in truth. Alas.

        S.

Thanksgiving. The greedy first pilgrims got off the ships and went looking for gold, that they were told was laying all over the ground. There didnt do enough planting to feed themselfs thru winter. Too busy looking for gold. The indians saw their plight and had to share with them or theyd starve.Something the schoolbooks dont like to talk about. Like why was General Custer sent to fight the Indians in the Black Mountains, which was given to the indians as a reserve to live on. It was a treaty by the US govt. When big gold deposts were discoverd in the Black Mountains, Custer was sent to kill them off the land so they could get the gold. You dont see that in text books either

It was in mine, in fact I think you quoted it, because it was just about that biased. What they didn’t say is that Custer was so lazy that he left his three gatling guns home. Whoops!

It was those fools at Jamestown looking for gold. In the spirit of Separatist rebellion I will be serving lasagna instead of turkey. That’s what happens when you are Italian and was baptized Presbyterian.
